One excruciating step at a time

Podcasting is not easy! At least, not the way I'm doing it.

I've got this worthwhile interview with Jonny Creal, complete with intro, outtro, a few sound effects and stuff. I've got it uploaded. Now, I've just got to get the RSS file straight, and I think I'm set.

Part of the problem is finding an uninterrupted half hour to sit at a computer and noodle with this shit. The only reason I've gotten this far is by snatching the odd minutes when I can, but it's taking goddamned forever!

"Move slowly if you have to, but for crying out loud, don't quit." That's just going to have to be my motto, I guess.

I'm not patient.

Podcast...?

I've been thinking long and hard about about putting together a comedy-related podcast.

"Just what the world needs, another amateur podcast, with bad sound and inane chatter," I hear you say. Well Jesus, aren't YOU just a cynical voice-in-my-head-which-I-transpose-onto-the-world-at-large? Yes. Yes you are.

But I've listened thoughtfully to other podcasts in my area, and I think I could offer something different, something that would stand in useful contrast to the local offerings that feature echo-y sound and much belching and farting into microphones. Yes, I think I could offer up something that is deficient in its own, entirely new and wonderful ways.

The podcast I'm dreaming of would offer: structure.

Ah, structure, the less-popular kid in class who tends to get better grades but who tends to be surprisingly handy once you realize that you're one of the 99 percent that the hot chick in class will also not fuck.

Hey, I didn't say the show would offer smooth metaphors, cut me some slack. This is a blog posting, not a literary masterpiece.

But yeah, I think that, after listening to other, more ambitious talents have displayed their ability to mumble into their microphones with their mouths full and their heads empty, to launch hours-long verbal voyages with no map nor compass, to book guests with no relevance to any person or scene anywhere, it's a good time to put something together that puts regional talent on display, to explore questions and discussions of comedic topics, and maybe even to entertain once in a while.

I think it could be done. Feel free to agree or disagree with me, and to let me know what you think. I'd love to hear from you.
